In 2013, a premium vintage in Montepulciano, rainfall accompanied the summer heat, leaving no risk of drought and subsequent suffering of the plants in our area. In rainy years we are particularly grateful for our clayey soils, which are able to absorb and subsequently nourish the vine roots with the right amount of moisture. Grandi Annate 2013, which has been aged for 18 months in oak and 18 months in the bottle, is lush and enveloping, with an impressive structure and delicious fruit, both on the nose and on the palate.

Virginie Saverys, owner: “The signature trait of the Vino Nobile terroir is no doubt its clay-rich soils which generate fruity, generous Sangiovese wines, usually ready to drink at a young age. The production philosophy of Grandi Annate is to enhance the terroir-driven character of our Sangiovese, while crafting a full-bodied, tightly woven wine with the stamina to refine for many years in the bottle.

Each year we harvest and vinify our Sangiovese vineyards separately to single out the parcels which bring forth the most interesting expression of our terroir. In fact, in order to capture the essence of the vintage, the Grandi Annate blend changes every year. In 2011 it was a single vineyard, in 2012 it involved 2 vineyards, and in 2013 it was a blend of 4 distinct vineyard sites: Oceano, Poggetti di Sopra, Le Badelle and El Grasso."
