This selection of Sangiovese is medium ruby red colour. The ample bouquet opens with scents of camellias and wild roses, followed by notes of black currant and red plums, and hints of eucalyptus and sandalwood. The Grandi Annate is well-balanced and round, with concentration and structure coming from the soil and elegance and finesse coming from the age of the vines. The tannins are firm but silky, and the fruity, elegant mid-palate leads towards a long finish reminiscent of cedar.

A deep vibrant ruby in the glass. We decanted the wine for almost two full hours at the urging of the winery. From the glass, this is wonderfully perfumed. Fresh flowers, sandalwood, crushed berries and spices leap from the glass. This evolves seemingly with each swirl. On the palate, the wine is round and elegant with a large core of crushed wild cherry fruit that is accented by pipe tobacco, cedar, turned earth and powdery, dusty Tuscan minerals. The flavors sit firmly on the midpalate and roll to a classy, almost feminine finish. An absolutely outstanding wine and re-establishes itself among the flag-bearers of Montepulciano.

This red combines berry fruit with elements of leather, tobacco, spice and mineral. Firmly structured and on the austere side, this is a classic expression of Sangiovese from Montepulciano. Best from 2017 through 2025. 540 cases made. –BS

Forest floor, ripe berry and cake spice aromas emerge in the glass. The structured palate doles out dried black cherry, blackberry, licorice, ground pepper and tobacco alongside assertive tannins that need time to unwind. Drink 2017–2021. By Kerin O’Keefe
