Intense, deep red in colour, Desiderio 2013 reveals inviting notes of sweet cherries and raspberries, rose petals and aromatic herbs, enhanced by subtle hints of menthol, red liquirice and chocolate-dipped coffee beans. The flavour is smooth and fruit-driven, with chewy tannins and a deliciously savoury finish. The perfect wine for a steak dinner.

With vintage 2013 we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Desiderio, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from our best vineyard plots. This wine is known not only for its distinct character and quality, but also for the huge white chianina bull that adorns its label.
The bull, named Desiderio, lived on the Avignonesi estate in the 19th century and had earned his place in history for being the largest bull at his time with an impressive weight of 1,600 kg / 3,500 lb.
For the last quarter of a century, the bull Desiderio has gained new recognition as the icon of our Merlot. It is a testimony to this wine‘s origins and a perfect symbol of its powerful, yet sensuous character.
In honour of Desiderio 2013, we have decided to revive an old winery tradition by which each vintage of Desiderio had its own special edition of the bull label.
To this end, at the beginning of 2016, we invited fans of Desiderio around the world to send us their idea for the 2013 label. We received many great suggestions and are happy to present you with the winning label, printed entirely in silver foil on a silky, dark-grey background, which truly highlights the animal drawing and underlines the importance of this silver anniversary. A strong image for a wine that has written the history of Avignonesi. A wine which will always be very special to us.
